Science Fiction

Students will read and examine classic works of science fiction literature and the critical analysis surrounding them, learning about the genre, its fundamentals, and how it has changed over time.

Why It's Useful

Learning to critically examine the media we consume on a daily basis is deeply important and helps to develop strong critical thinking skills that are invaluable later in life—especially in college, though arguably equally so in adulthood. Though science fiction is a niche genre, reading it critically can help us understand the culture, fears, hopes, and wants of previous generations and provide new perspectives on the social and cultural issues of this generation through the lens of fiction.
