Minecraft

Summary

Students will learn team building and creative problem-solving skills through Minecraft. They will also get an introduction to digital logic and electrical engineering through the in-game ‘redstone’ system.

Why It's Useful

Minecraft is a game, but the skills it is used to teach in this course are invaluable. In-game mechanics such as redstone teach students the basics of boolean logic, which is a fundamental feature in programming. As a team-based class, students will also develop interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills, all of which are highly sought after by organizations, employers, and schools.

*Please note that while downloading the game itself is free, students will be required to have their own paid Minecraft account to participate. A paid account is a one-time payment of $26.95 to Mojang, the developers of the game. We will receive no payment whatsoever for your purchase, and this purchase must occur before the first session. Moreover, please note that if a student has Minecraft on their phone, tablet, or other mobile device, that account DOES NOT carry over to the computer version.*
